A Relief to My Burdens

When we support, care for, and invest in children, they give back. The appreciation they have can’t be contained and it flows into their friends, family, and community. Peter’s story is a story of overcoming challenges, but more than that – it is a story of giving back.

Peter was about to begin Grade 9 at Mwase Day Secondary School on the outskirts of Lundazi, Zambia, when his mother died. Peter and his younger siblings were suddenly left unsure of how they would finish school. Though he finished Grade 9, Peter couldn’t begin Grade 10 because of financial struggles. He was forced to stay home from school for two terms.

“Ever since I made it to Grade 10, I have been asking for assistance from different people. It was hard to raise enough money.” Peter was often forced to leave school and he had little hope of ever being able to attend and finish. Then things started to change: Peter was chosen by EduDeo’s partner, Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP), as a recipient of their vulnerable student bursary.

It is difficult for me to show the joy in me because of CCAP. To be honest, I almost quit my education when I saw that it was difficult for me to pay for my school fees. CCAP has come in as a relief to my burdens.

I am now a religious prefect [at school] because I know CCAP is a church organization that needs to extend the Gospel to its schools. I am one of the disciples to help in extending the Gospel at Mwase Day Secondary School. I do my duties as a prefect with passion because I believe it is through my duties that I can contribute in preaching the Gospel at school. When I am done with Grade 12, I want to go and study at the university and become a doctor so that I help the sick in hospitals and also help people in need. Thank you for your support.”
