At Sanctuary it is our belief that the Church has a central role to play in promoting mental wellness and mental health recovery. Sanctuary helps churches become even more loving places of belonging and hope by providing mental health related training, educational resources and support. We equip the Church to be a sanctuary for all people, at all stages of their mental wellness journeys.
One of our key resources is The Sanctuary Course, a small group study that runs over the course of eight weeks, taking participants on a journey of discussing faith and mental health in community. The sessions are designed to be read, processed, and responded to during the small group time and cover themes such as: understanding mental health and illness, challenging stigma, the recovery journey, companionship, self-care, and the role of community in mental health recovery. Each theme is explored from a psychological, social, and theological perspective, and each session is accompanied by a compelling film featuring the story of an individual who has journeyed through mental health challenges as a person of faith.
